Greetings!
Horse Sense Marketing News offers great tips on marketing
your individual horses, stallions, horses for sale, horse events,
horse training facilities and breeding operations. Kathy Walker
brings 30 years of graphic communications to the equestrian
industry. A horse owner herself, Kathy helps make the
connection between horse people and today's advertising
technology.
Photography plays a vital role in the marketing of
horses. It's good business to have good photography.
Photography makes your horse look dumpy or look like
a million bucks.

 |
There are
hundreds if not thousands of horse websites on the
internet. Like with any other business, the impression
you make with your presentation of your horses can
affect the "perceived value" of your horses.
Making your website memorable with strong graphic
design can make a huge difference to your horse
business. If it looks unprofessional, it gives the wrong
message to those visiting your site. Most of all don't
underestimate the importance of good photography
when selling horses. The pictures above are of the
same horse. Lush green backgrounds always make a
great backdrop in horse photography.

| Altering Photos |
 |
If you
should come up with a great high resolution digital or
print photo of your horse, say like for an ad, but the
background detracts from the horse, there are
technical solutions with a good graphic designer. If
you want to try it yourself, Kinkos has Adobe
Photoshop which is the best software for the job. The
first photo is the original one I shot for a new vitamin
supplement brochure for animals. I was happy with
the action which is the hardest for me to get. In
Adobe Photoshop I was able to erase the background
and lay the horse into another background. What a
difference!

| Action! |
 |
We have such a visual attraction to photos of horses in
action, whether it's horse racing, cutting, reining,
dressage, jumping, etc. If you are selling horses both
an action shot showing the horse's movement and a
"beauty shot" showing confirmation are good
marketing.
