| Keep It Simple |
 |
Building an image is like when we are training our
horses, consistency is everything. I recently talked
with a new client that had three very different logos
they were using for the same business. I pointed out to
him that people see three businesses, not one business
with three logos. The main reason to have a logo is to
start building recognition in the market place. When
people use different fonts, colors and logos for their
printed materials, business cards and web sites, they
are creating image chaos and are confusing the very
people they are trying to reach. The life of a well-
designed logo is 5 to 10 years or more. That means
the same colors, graphics and fonts should be used
throughout the life of the logo.
It helps to take a look at what successful large
businesses do. Corporations even produce graphics
manuals with graphics standards on how all of their
graphics are to be used. Large businesses realize how
important their branding is in the marketplace and
they take steps to guard that branding. You don't need
a manual but you do need to take steps in guarding
your branding with consistant graphics.
We recently did this logo for Healing Strides which is a
therapy using horses to help people in their recovery
from disorders. As always, if you have any questions
that we can answer for you don't hesitate to give us a
call or e-mail us.

| The Graphics Trap |
 |
It's easy to get fragmented with your graphics. You
need a business card and you have your printer put
one together. You need an ad and you have the
publication design one. You need a Web site so you go
to a tech person to put one together for you. You need
a brochure and you go to a graphic designer or do it
yourself in a word program.
The trap in this is nobody really cares if this is all
consistent and looks like it's all coming from the same
business. The printer just wants to crank out a
business card with the "color of the day" on his press.
The publication artist has 30 ads to produce in a week
and could care less if this ad fits with the rest of your
graphics. The Web designer has their own graphics
style and only works in low resolution files not fit for
offset printing or ads.
Our recommendation is when you are working on your
business budget, set aside funds for a professional
graphic designer who also designs Web sites. A good
graphic designer will look at all of your graphics and
be your "Graphics Headquarters." You need someone
who looks out for your best interests and makes sure
that you are presenting a consistent image.

| Graphics From A Distance |
 |
|
With today's technology it has made it very easy to
work with graphic designers from a distance. With e-
mail, PDF files, Web site uploads and downloads and
overnight deliveries, you can be located in a rural
community and yet use technical people who live many
miles away.
Word of mouth is always the best way to find a graphic
designer. Look for experience and reliability. It takes
a few years in the graphic design business to learn to
avoid some of the pitfalls that an happen, so I would
avoid graphics students. You'll pay more for a
professional, but the results are worth it.

| Fun Product - Foot Loose Boot Jack |
 |
|
Horse Sense Marketing recently produced a fun Web
site for the Foot Loose Boot Jack. With Christmas
coming up I thought I would include this in this issue.
This unique product offers a "pull" to remove your
boots. The wooden boot pull stands 3" x 15" x 9 1/4"
and is made out of durable fir with a clear lacquer
finish. The boot jack sits on the floor, and you pull
between the "toes" of the jack to remove your boots.
The Foot Loose Boot Pull has a lifetime guarantee.
If you're interested you can go to the website using the
link below or call 719-495-4710.
